Dimanche 2 Août 1981
Allons à San José la messe croate et après la messe Milan parle a Velimir et a fra. Mate Markota à propos de récupérer de l’argent pour les avocats. Arrivés à la maison vers 2h et après déjeuner, vers 6h30 nous allons chez Rafo et Zdenka. Rafo a loué le film “Airplane” et de 7h à 8h30, nous regardons ce film. Après cela, nous allumons les bougies sur le gâteau d’anniversaire à Sophie et naturellement le champagne pour nous adultes, etc…A 10h nous montons à la maison.
Lundi 3 Août 1981
Rien de particulier. Milan rentre vers 4h et nous devons manger en vitesse car à 6h nous devons être chez un ami à nous Igor Buljan qui habite à Dublin, l’Est de S.F., mais quand on est arrivé chez lui il n’est pas à la maison. De la on je partis chez Milan Cvitanović et revenons à la maison à 11h. Je me sens si fatiguée que ce n’est pas drôle.
Mardi 4 Août 1981
Rien de spécial. Milan ira à San Jose chez Fra Mate Markota pour former un comité qui pourrait récupérer l’argent pour la défense des Croates, mais tous ont peur de s’en mêler et Milan se fait du souci.
Mercredi 5 Août 1981
Rien de particulier. Milan est de plus en plus en colère devant la peur des gens. Nous avons besoin d’argent et comment en trouver? Milan va chez Léon Galić le soir et rencontre quelques personnes chez lui et je crois qu’ après avoir beaucoup parlé, Milan réussit à convaincre Léon Galić d’être la personne principale du comité. “FOND POUR LA DEFENSE CROATE”
Jeudi 6 Août 1981
Milan a commencé à travailler à San Bruno. Rien de particulier jus qu’au soir à 5h quand un journaliste reporter pour “The Peninsula News” Randy Hagihara et venu interviewer Milan sur sa vie personnelle, notre arrivée en Amérique, comment il a commencé son business de construction et je pense, un peu sur le cas actuel, mais Milan ne peut pas dire grand chose. Il doit appeler son avocat Dennis Roberts pour permission. Dennis a répondu que Milan est assez intelligent et qu’il sait quoi dire. Milan a accepté et nous sommes partis dans la salle de séjour. L’interview a duré entre 1h45 et 2 heures. Milan a répondu à toutes les questions posées par le journaliste Randy Hagihara et a été très en détail. (Ici, aujourd’hui le 17 octobre 2022 pendant que je copie cela, j’aimerais bien mettre la photo de ce journal du 11 juillet 1981. Mile.)
Milan a travaillé le matin. L’après midi nous sommes allés avec les garçons faire du cheval, chose que nous avons promis aux enfants depuis longtemps. Ces chevaux étaient si lents et ils n’en faisaient qu’a leur tête. Cela a amusé les enfants et énervé Milan. La prochaine fois je prendrai des chevaux pour des cavaliers expérimentés. Le soir, une journaliste de Peninsula Times Tribune News est venue prendre des photos de Milan avec Stjepan et Rafael. Comme Milan ne m’avait pas prévenu, elle n’a pas pu prendre de photos de toute la famille. Igor a appelé le soir et nous nous sommes mis d’accord pour aller chez eux demain, samedi.
Samedi 8 Août 1981
Sommes partis à 8h15 chez Igor avec les 3 garçons. Sophie, Catherine et Drina sont allés à Monterey avec les Nikolić, amis à nous. Sommes allés dans une ferme cueillir des tomates, concombres, pommes etc…Avons passé une excellente journée. Sommes rentrés vers 1h et Milan et les enfants sont allés nager à la mer. J’étais bien mieux à l’intérieur avec l’air conditionné. Nous avons déjeuné vers 3h30 et pendant le dîner nous avons parlé du cas de Milan. C’est incroyable qu’après avoir lu tant d’articles et de livres sur les méthodes de FBI, Igor pense croire que le FBI est si innocent ou plutôt qu’il n’a aucun recours à des méthodes injustes. Il nous a dit aussi qu’après le meeting de samedi au Croatian Hall, Ante Batković a été vu aller prendre un verre avec Bob Gorette, Branko Kujundžić et toute la clique, ce qui ne nous étonne pas. Igor nous a dit aussi textuellement “C’est vraiment terrible tout ce qui est arrivé”, Batković lui a répondu “Je suis désolé pour ses enfants mais Boban aurait du penser a eux avant de faire ce qu’il a fait”, voulant parler évidemment des charges que Milan a contre lui. Vu la compagnie qu’il garde et avec qu’il est, cela ne m’étonne pas qu’il ait des idées comme cela.
Sommes revenus à la maison vers 9h. Les filles sont revenues vers 7 heures. La journée était excellente comme je l’avais déjà dit jusqu’au moment où l’on est arrivé à la maison. Un billet de notre avocat nous attendait à la maison et les $10.000 que nous lui avons donné sont déjà partis ce qui a déprimé Milan. Que pourrais-je lui dire? J’avais envie de lui dire “C’est le premier billet d’une quinzaine”, mais cela l’aurait énervé en plus. Je lui ai demandé d’aller regarder “La croisière s’amuse”, en englais “Love Boat” et il est parti dormir tout de suite après.
Ponedjeljak, 3. kolovoza 1981
Ništa naročito. Milan se vraća oko 4 i trebamo na brzinu jesti jer u 6 ujutro moramo biti kod prijatelja Igora Buljana koji živi u Dublinu, istočno od San Francisco, ali kad smo stigli kod njega, njega nema kući. Odatle smo otišli do Milana Cvitanovića i vratili se kući u 11 sati. Osjećala sam se tako umorna da li to nije smiješno.
Utorak, 4. kolovoza 1981
Ništa određeno. Milan će ići u San Jose kod fra Mate Markote da osnuju organizaciju koja bi trebala prikupljati novac za obranu Hrvata, ali svi se boje da se u to umješaju. što Milanu daje velike brige i vrlo je zabrinut.
Srijeda, 5. kolovoza 1981
Ništa određeno. Milan se sve više i više ljuti zbog straha kojeg ljudi imaj prema njemu. Trebamo novca a kako ga i gdje pronaći? Milan navečer odlazi kod Leona Galića i kod njega se nalazi s nekim ljudima i vjerujem da je nakon dosta razgovora Milan uspio uvjeriti Leona Galića da on bude predsjednik u organizaciju za prikupljenje dobrovoljnih priloga za obranu Hrvata. Tu večer su stvorili ime organizaciji “FOND ZA OBRANU HRVATSKE”.
Četvrtak, 6. kolovoza 1981
Milan je počeo raditi u San Brunu. Ništa posebno do večeri u 5 sati kada je novinar reporter za “The Peninsula Times Tribune News” Randy Hagihara došao intervjuirati Milana o njegovom osobnom životu, našem dolasku u Ameriku, kako je započeo svoj građevinski posao i mislim, malo i o aktualnom slučaju, ali Milan ne može i ne smije puno reći. Mora nazvati svog odvjetnika Dennisa Robertsa za dopuštenje. Dennis je odgovorio da je Milan prilično pametan i da zna što će reći. Milan je pristao i otišli smo u dnevnu sobu. Razgovor je trajao između 1h45 i 2h. Milan je odgovorio na sva pitanja novinara Randy Hagihare i bio je vrlo detaljan. On je otišao oko 8 sati uvečer. (Ovdje danas 17. listopada 2022. dok ovo kopiram, želio bih staviti sliku iz ovih novina od 11. srpnja 1981. Naslov je “The life of an accused terrorist” = “Život jednog optuženog teroriste” Mile.)
Petak, 7. kolovoza 1981
Milan je radio ujutro. Poslije podne smo s sinovima otišli na jahanje, što smo djeci već davno bili obećali. Konji su bili jako spori i radili su što su htjeli. To je djecu zabavljalo, a Milana nerviralo. Sljedeći put ću uzeti konje za iskusne jahače. Navečer je novinarka Peninsula Newsa došla slikati Milana sa sinom Stjepanom i Rafaelom. Budući da mi Milan nije rekao, nije mogla fotografirati cijelu obitelj jer nismo bili spremni. Igor je nazvao navečer i dogovorili smo se za sutra, u subotu, da odemo kod njih.
Subota 8. kolovoza 1981
Krenuli smo u 8:15 kod Igora sa 3 naša sina. Sophie, Catherine i Drina su otišle u Monterey s Nikolićima, našim prijateljima. Otišala sam na farmu brati rajčice, krastavce, jabuke itd… Imala sam divan dan. Vratili smo se kući oko 1 sat, Milan i djeca su otišli na more kupati se. Bilo mi je jako lijepo unutra u kući s hladnom klimom. Ručali smo oko 3:30 a tijekom večere smo razgovarali o Milanovu slučaju. Nevjerojatno je da nakon što je pročitao toliko članaka i knjiga o metodama FBI-a, Igor još uvijek vjeruje da je FBI toliko nevina ili još bolje rečeno da nemaju žalba za nepoštene metode. Ispričao nam je i da je nakon subotnjeg sastanka u Hrvatskom Domu vidio Antu Batković na piću s Bobom Goretteom, Brankom Kujundžić i cijelom njihovom klapom, što nas ne čudi. Igor nam je rekao i doslovce “Stvarno je strašno sve što se dogodilo”, Batković mu je odgovorio “Žao mi je njegove djece, ali Boban je trebao misliti na njih prije nego što je radio i činio”, želeći progovoriti očito o optužbama koje Milan ima protiv njega. S obzirom na to u kakvom je društvu i s kim je, ne čudi me da ima takve ideje.

Nothing special. Milan comes back around 4 and we need to eat quickly because at 6 PM we have to be with our friend Igor Buljan who lives in Dublin, east of San Francisco, but when we arrived at his place, he was not home. From there we went to Milan Cvitanović and returned home at 11 o’clock. I felt so tired it was not funny.

Nothing definite. Milan will go to San Jose to see Brother Mate Markota to found an organization that should collect money for the defense of Croats, but everyone is afraid to get involved. which Milan is very worried about.

Nothing definite. Milan is getting more and more angry because of the fear that people have towards him. We need money and how and where to find it? In the evening, Milan goes to Leon Galić and meets with some people, and I believe that after a lot of conversation, Milan managed to convince Leon Galić to be the president of the organization for collecting voluntary contributions for the defense of Croats. That evening they created the name of the organization “CROATIAN DEFENSE FUND”.

Milan started working in San Bruno. Nothing special until 5 o’clock in the evening when a journalist reporter for “The Peninsula News” Randy Hagihara came to interview Milan about his personal life, our arrival in America, how he started his construction business and I think a little about the current case, but Milan can’t and he must not say much. He has to call his lawyer Dennis Roberts for permission. Dennis replied that Milan is quite smart and knows what to say. Milan agreed and we went to the living room. The conversation lasted between 1h45 and 2h. Milan answered all the questions of reporter Randy Hagihara and was very detailed. He left around 8 o’clock in the evening. (Here today October 17, 2022 as I copy this I would like to put a picture from this newspaper from July 11, 1981. The headline is “The life of an accused terrorist” = “Life of one accused terrorist” Mile.)
Milan worked in the morning. In the afternoon, we went horseback riding with our sons, which we had promised our children a long time ago. The horses were very slow and did what they wanted. This amused the children and annoyed Milan. Next time I will take horses for experienced riders. In the evening, a journalist from Peninsula News came to take pictures of Milan with his sons Stjepan and Rafael. Since Milan didn’t tell me, she couldn’t photograph the whole family because we weren’t ready. Igor called in the evening and we agreed on tomorrow, Saturday, to go to their place.

We left at 8:15 for Igor with 3 of our sons. Sophie, Catherine and Drina went to Monterey with Nikolić, our friends. I went to the farm to pick tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, etc… I had a wonderful day. We returned home around 1 o’clock, Milan and the children went to the swimming pool. It was very nice inside the house with the cold air conditioning. We had lunch around 3:30 and during dinner we talked about Milan’s case. It is amazing that after reading so many articles and books about the methods of the FBI, Igor still believes that the FBI is so innocent or rather that they have no complaints about unfair methods. He also told us that after Saturday’s meeting in the Croatian Parliament, he saw Anta Batković having a drink with Bob Gorette, Branko Kujundžić and their entire clan, which is not surprising to us. Igor told us verbatim “Everything that happened is really terrible”, Batković answered him “I feel sorry for his children, but Boban should have thought of them before he acted like he did”, wanting to speak clearly about the accusations that Milan has against him. Considering the kind of company he is in and who he is with, I am not surprised that he has such ideas.
