Rien de particulier. Milan doit passer devant le juge dans la journée à New York et doit me téléphoner pour me dire à quelle heure il doit arriver. Judy, la secrétaire de Dennis téléphone dans l’après midi et me dit a quelle heure l’avion doit venir et j’en profite pour lui dire a propos du piquenique de dimanche mais elle ne dit qu’elle ne pourra pas y aller. Cela lui prend 2h pour venir de chez elle car elle habite à Bolinos. Vers 5h Zvonko Crnogorac de New York téléphone et me dit que Milan arrivera entre 19h30 et 11h à San Francisco par American Airlines. Vers 7h les Pignatelli arrivent et nous parlons de choses et d’autres. Je mets les enfants au lit vers 8h15 et tout de suite, Stjepan se plaint d’avoir mal à l’estomac et pendant que j’attends dans sa chambre il vomit sur la carpette. Je nettoie et pendant plus d’une heure il va se promener entre son lit et le mur et ça c’est vu qu’il est vraiment malade. La même chose lui était arrivé quelques 2 semaines auparavant, je sais qu’il y a rien a faire, c’est un “stomach flu”.
Samedi 15 Août 1981
Rien ne se passe chez nous. Tout est calme. Milan va chez Kata, Rafo etc…Je vais faire des courses avec Drina pour acheter quelque chose pour l’anniversaire à Nadine, voisine et amie à Drina. Rafael est malade, la même chose que Stjepan. Sophie babysit Missy et Lauren et dans l’après midi elle est malade aussi. A 3 heures de l’après- midi Drina et Catherine s’en vont au “birthday party”. Elles doivent aller au restaurant, ensuite au cinéma et en revenant chez elles nager dans leur piscine. A 5 heures madame Naber téléphone et me dit que Drina est malade ensuite. Catherine revient vers 10h et me dit “Je feel funny”. Cinq minutes après elle vomit. Quant à Sophie, elle avait déjà amené Missy et Lauren ici chez nous pour dormir. Dans la nuit, j’ai entendu du bruit et en me levant j’ai appris qu’elles aussi avaient été malades. Il manquait donc que moi et Milan. Une heure plus tard, c’était mon tour.
Dimanche 16 Août 1981
Toute la famille est malade, la nourriture nous écoeure. Milan va chez Léon Galić et ensuite avec son frère Rafo part au piqunique a San Jose. Le soir il mange chez Božo Kelava pendant que moi, je suis malade de fièvre. Je pars au lit à 8h, complètement vidée.

Milan travaille à san Bruno. Quant à nous, nous nous traînons d’un côté de la maison à l’autre. Incroyable ce que la grippe peut affaiblir. La maison a une drôle d’odeur. Le soir Milan va chez Léon Galić car il faut commencer à récolter de l’argent pour les avocats.
Mardi 18 Août 1981
Milan travaille à San Bruno jusqu’à 12 heures. Je commence à me sentir mieux et les enfants aussi mais pas assez bien pour aller au parc si bien que les garçons me mettent les nerfs en boule. Milan a pris rendez-vous avec John Lebbeter pour savoir s’il pourrait nous avancer de l’argent en mettant collatéral sur notre maison. Nous avons rendez-vous à 2h30 et avant cela rendez-vous à 11h30 pour le chômage. John Lebbeter a trouvé 1000 excuses, spécialement quand il a vu la note du bond pour le bail, il nous a dit qu’il n’avait pas d’argent pour le moment mais il nous a donné l’adresse d’un Mr. Gontie que lui a un “investissement business”. Nous lui téléphonons donc et il nous dit de venir le voir à 10h30 le lendemain matin.
Mercredi 19 Août 1981
Sophie a commencé à travailler chez Kata et elle doit prendre l’autobus. J’ai donc téléphoné à la Compagnie d’autobus qui m’a dit que l’autobus passe toutes les 30 mn sur El Camino. Nous voilà donc parti à 9h30 et à 10h30 nous devons être chez Mr. Gontie. Nous attendons 45 mn sur El Camino et pas d’autobus arrive. Allons chez Mr. Gontie. Nous allons chez Mr. Gontie qui lui aussi trouve 1000 excuses pour ne pas nous prêter l’argent dès qu’il sait qu’ il y a une caution de 250.000 sur la maison. De chez lui, nous accompagnons Sophie chez Kata et nous nous arrêtons à San Bruno sur El Camino du retour et nous arrivons à la maison vers 12h30. Je fais le lunch et après je décide d’appeler Milan pour lui demander d’aller à Half Moon Bay pour sortir. Je ne peux plus rester entre 4 murs. Depuis vendredi dernier je suis resté enfermé et je ne peux plus tenir. Nous partons à 2h et retournons à 5 heures. Très belle journée, pas de vent, du soleil et de l’air pur. Cela me fait vraiment du bien. Milan va chez Jerko (Kukić) pour lui demander de l’argent, à nous prêter. Il revient vers 10 heures.

Ništa nova. Milan se mora pojaviti pred sucem tijekom dana u New Yorku i treba me nazvati da mi kaže u koje vrijeme dolazi doći. Judy, Dennisova tajnica me zove poslijepodne i kaže mi u koje vrijeme bi trebao stići avion i ja koristim priliku da joj kažem za piknik u nedjelju, ali ona ne kaže da ne može doći. Treba njoj 2 sata da dođe od kuće jer ona živi u Bolinosu. Oko 5 zove poslije podne Zvonko Crnogorac iz New Yorka i javlja mi da će Milan stići između 7:30 i u 11 dolazi u San Francisco sa American Airlines. Oko 7 kod nas dolaze naši Pignatelli i razgovaramo o ovome i onom. Stavljam djecu na spavanje oko 8:15 i odmah se Stjepan žali da ga boli trbuh i dok čekam u njegovoj sobi, on je povratio na tepih. Ja to očistim a on više od sat vremena hoda između svog kreveta i zida i vidim da mu je stvarno loše. Ista stvar mu se dogodila prije nekih 2 tjedna, znam da ne mogu što za to učiniti, jer to je “gripa na želudcu gripe”.
U razgovoru mu kažem da moram ići na uzletište u 19:30 uzeti Milana jer on dolazi iz New Yorka. Još uvijek mu ne govorim ništa o tome što se dogodilo dok smo bili u Francuskoj. (Ovdje treba nadodati to da je moja supruga Annie sa šestero djece otišla sprovesti Božić i Novu Godinu kod svojih roditelja u Pariz. Otišla je 17 prosinca 1978 a vratila se 9 siječnja 1979. Zbog mog građevinskog posla ja nisam mogao ići, jer sam prije mjesec i pol dana bio u Parizu na sprovodu Bruni Bušić i tada sam bio kod mog punca i punice. Između Božića i Nove godine nazvala me Marica Lević iz Los Angelesa i rekla mi da ne izlazim iz kuće, jer su tu došli Krešo Šimović i Slobodan radić da me ubiju. Marica Kaže da je ona nazvala FBI u San Francisco i razgovarala sa Bob Goretom, koji joj je rekao da će on odmah poslati tajne agente pred moju kuću. O ovom slučaju se je mnogo raspravljalo na sudu u Njujorku od 16 veljače do 15 svibnja 1982, god, Mo. Mile Boban.) U 10:15 odlazim i dečki dolaze sa mnom. Idem dolje i svima im govorim što se dogodilo. Ne mogu vjerovati i potpuno su začuđeni. Dolazimo tamo i saznajemo da će avion kasniti i da će stići oko 11:15 sati. Već jednom ne zovem aerodrom prije polaska, aviona nema. Pa se vraćamo u kuću i još malo razgovaramo. U 11:30 opet krećemo, ovaj put s Pignatellijevim autom jer, izgleda oni nemaju povjerenja u moje auto. Nakon 10 minuta dolazi Milan. Malo razgovaramo i djeca počinju gledati “Priču o Lizi Bordon”. Zvuči zanimljivo te i mi sjednemo gledati, ali Pignatelli odlaze. Ostajemo do 1 ujutro. Sada ja pitam Milana što se je dogodilo u New Yorku, on mi ništa posebno ne kaže nego da će sljedeće ročište biti 21. rujna i da će tijekom suđenja sigurno ostati Milan i Dennis kod Mirka Luburića kojeg je žena upravo ostavila, napustila.
Subota 15. kolovoza 1981
Kod nas se ništa ne događa. Sve je mirno. Milan ide kod Kat, Rafo itd…Drina i ja idemo u trgovinu kupiti nešto za Nadin rođendan, naša susjedkinja i Drinina prijateljica. Rafael je bolestan, kao i Stjepan. Sophie čuva Missy i Lauren, a poslijepodne je i ona bolesna. U 3 sata poslijepodne Drina i Catherine odlaze na “rođendansku svečanost”. Ići će u restoran, zatim u kino i po povratku kući kupati će se u njihovu bazenu. U 5 sati telefonira gospođa Naber i kaže mi da je Drina nakon svega bolesna. Catherine se vraća oko 10 i kaže mi “da se ni ona ne osjeća dobro”. Pet minuta kasnije povratila je. Što se tiče Sophie, ona je dovela Missy i Lauren kod nas na spavanje. Tijekom noći čula sam jauk, a kad sam ustala saznala sam da su i oni bolesni. Dakle, nedostajala sam samo ja i Milan. Sat vremena kasnije došao je red i na mene.
Nedjelja 16. kolovoza 1981
Cijela obitelj je bolesna, hrana nam se gadi. Milan odlazi do Leona Galića, a potom s bratom Rafom na piknik u San Jose. Navečer on jede kod Bože Kelavi dok ja imam temperaturu. Legla sam u 8 ujutro, potpuno sam iznemogla.
Ponedjeljak, 17. kolovoza 1981
Milan radi u San Bruno. Što se nas tiče, vučemo se s jedne na drugu stranu kuće. Nevjerojatno što gripa može oslabiti. Kuća ima čudan miris. Navečer Milan odlazi do Leona Galića jer moraju početi skupljati novac za odvjetnike.
Utorak, 18. kolovoza 1981
Milan radi na San Bruno do 12 sati. Počinjem se osjećati bolje, kao i djeca, ali ne dovoljno dobro da idem u park, pa mi dečki idu na živce. Milan je dogovorio sastanak s Johnom Lebbeterom da sazna može li nam posuditi novac stavljanjem jamčevine na našu kuću. Imamo sastanak u 2:30, a prije toga sastanak u 11:30 na biro rada. John Lebbeter je imao 1000 isprika, pogotovo kada je vidio jamčevinu za moje puštanje na slobodu, rekao nam je da trenutno nema novca, ali nam je dao adresu gospodina Gontieja da ima “investicijsku kompaniju”. Mi smo ga nazvali i on nam je rekao da ga dođemo vidjeti u 10:30 sljedećeg jutra.
Srijeda, 19. kolovoza 1981
Sophie je počela raditi u kati i mora ići autobusom. Ja sam nazvala autobusnu tvrtku koja mi je rekla da autobus ide svakih 30 minuta na El Camino. Dakle, krenuli smo u 9:30, au 10:30 moramo biti kod gospodina Gontieja. Čekamo 45 minuta na El Camino i ne dolazi autobus. Idemo do gospodina Gotiea koji također nalazi 1000 isprika da nam ne posudi novac, čim je sazna da je na kući kaucija od 250.000. Iz njegova ured smo odvezli Sophie do Kata i zaustavili smo se u San Bruno na El Camino na povratku i stižemo kući oko 12:30. Napravila sam ručak i odlučim nazvati Milana da ga zamolim da odemo u Half Moon Bay da izađemo malo vani. Ne mogu više ostati između ova 4 zida. Od prošlog sam petka zatvorena i ne mogu više izdržati. Krećemo u 2 ujutro i vraćamo se u 5 ujutro. Jako lijep dan, bez vjetra, sunce i čist zrak. Stvarno se osjećam dobro. Milan odlazi do Jerka (Kukića) da od njega traži novac, da nam posudi. Vraća se oko 10 sati.
Četvrtak, 20. kolovoza 1981
Nothing in particular. Milan must go before the judge during the day in New York and had to call me to tell me what time he must arrive. Rafael is sick, the same as Stjepan. Sophie babysits Missy and Lauren and in the afternoon she is sick too. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon Drina and Catherine go to the “birthday party”. They have to go to the restaurant, then to the cinema and on returning home to swim in their swimming pool. At 5 o’clock Madame Naber telephones and tells me that Drina is ill afterwards.
