PART OF CROATIAN HISTORY OF CROATIANS IN SAN FRANCISCO –
THAT’S HOW IT WAS DONE FOR CROATIA!

The attached picture will remind many Croats of San Francisco and the Bay Area during the CROATIAN WEEK IN SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO in October 1980. Through a Filipino, with whom I did some work, something in his house, which I don’t remember the details of, I established contact with the mayor of the City of San Francisco, Diane Feinstein. At that time I was constructing and building the Croatian Hall = Hrvatski Dom at 415 Grand Avenue, in South San Francisco, I kept thinking about how to use this knowledge for Croatian purposes. We decided to have a GRAND OPENING on Saturday October 18, 1980.
Since my English was not the best, I asked my brother Rafa (1944-2004) to go with me to a meeting with the mayor of San Francisco, Diane Feinstein. I invited her and asked her to be the one to cut the ribbon for the GRAND OPENING. She told me that she was sorry but that she couldn’t, because it belongs to the city of SSF and not SF. She told me she was going to ask South San Francisco Mayor Al Acosta to be the one. And it was like that. Through her recommendation, I went to see Mayor Al Acosta, who gladly agreed. At my request and request, the city of South San Francisco agreed to declare CROATIAN WEEK, so that American and Croatian flags are placed on both sides of Grande Avenue. This is how CROATIAN WEEK ended with Croatian and American flags on both sides of Grand Avenue, on the occasion of the GRAND OPENING.

DIO POVIJESTI HRVATA SAN FRANCISKA – TAKO SE TO RADI ZA HRVATSKU!

Priložena slika će podsjetiti Mnoge Hrvate San Francisca i Bay Area prigodom HRVATSKOG TJEDNA U SOUTH SAN FRANCISCU u listopadu 1980. godine.
I remember this story! Thank you for sharing!
